The South LA Community Foundation
Building Community Power, Opportunity, and Resilience through People. Place. Prosperity.

OUR MISSION
The South LA Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit affiliate of South LA Cafe, builds community power, opportunity, and resilience to advance a more equitable, healthy, and prosperous South Los Angeles. Our work is rooted in three interconnected pillars: People. Place. Prosperity.

#1: PEOPLE: EMPOWERING OUR FAMILIES
Lifting barriers to human rights and healthy ecosystems by creating access to resources and developing a social safety net. We expand access to workforce development, technology, education and the tools people need to navigate a changing economy.
#2: PLACE: CREATING OUR COMMUNITY
Rejecting cultural erasure and displacement by creating equitable and thriving community spaces and experiences. We create spaces where community members can learn, connect, experiment, and have a voice in the changes shaping their lives.
#3: PROSPERITY: BUILDING OUR ECONOMY
Combatting gentrification and corporate development by building a sustainable and self-determined local economy. Our work includes exploring how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence are changing work, opportunity and value - and how communities like South LA can have greater agency in shaping what comes next.
WHAT WE'RE BUILDING
Building the infrastructure our community needs to thrive today and shape what comes next.
FOOD ACCESS
Connecting families with nutritious food and essential resources through partnerships and our signature program, the South LA Grocery Giveaway.
WORKFORCE + ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
Preparing community members for work, entrepreneurship and a changing economy through initiatives including the Cafe Academy.
COMMUNITY RESILIENCE
Building stronger systems, resources and relationships that help South LA communities prepare, respond and thrive.
EQUITY AI + THE FUTURE OF WORK
Exploring how AI is changing work, opportunity and community life; building the knowledge, access and agency South LA needs to help shape what comes next.
